Cancer Research Benefits from

Twelfth Annual “Go Play in the Street”

The twelfth-annual 2018 “Go Play in the Street! 5K Run/Walk and Mile Fun Run/Walk” was held Saturday, October 13 in Greenfield, IL. All net proceeds (to date, over $35,000) are donated to support cancer research.

Overall male winner of the 2018 5K was Greg Watson, 48, of Carrollton, with a time of 22:49. Overall female winner was Megan Clark, 35, of Greenfield, in 23:09.

This year’s honorary “pace-setter” – who led the runners through the 3.1 mile course – was Rita Plogger, Greenfield, a survivor of stage 4 cancer. She was driven through the course in a 1965 Mustang convertible driven by Bob Thaxton, formerly of Greenfield, also a cancer survivor.

During the awards ceremony, participants enjoyed Alfonso’s pizza, along with bagels, fruit, chocolate milk and water, served by dedicated volunteers from Carrollton Bank. Medals were presented to the top female and male finishers (Clark and Watson); and to the first- and second-place finishers in each age category. Everyone received a finisher’s medal and technical running shirt commemorating their participation.

This event would not be possible without the enormous generosity of our civic-minded local businesses: Randy Fergurson Insurance, exclusive sponsor of the “Tot Trot;” Boyd Healthcare Services; Campbell Publications; Bounce Back at Jerseyville Manor; Killion Communications Consultants; Charity Southern Baptist Church; LPL Financial, David C. Cary; Hamel Chiropractic Clinic; Pyatt’s Autobody; J&K Furniture; Carrollton Bank, Carrollton branch; United Community Bank, Greenfield; Bev’s Baskets and Bows; Alfonso’s Pizza; JCH Wellness Center; John R.
